In Her Own Words: Hearing the Stories of Prostituted Women

March 8th is International Women’s Day.

If you’re near Vancouver and wondering how to celebrate, consider attending a film screening and discussion of “The Fallacy,” by Ève Lamont.

Organised by REED with members of the Empire Remixed community, this event will give us an opportunity to hear from women with a variety of experiences, sit with their stories, and consider how we might respond both individually and collectively.

Filmed in Quebec, Ève’s film takes a candid look at prostitution through interviews with dozens of women who have exited and those who are still involved in the sex industry.

Before making the film Ève talked to 75 women in the sex trade to hear the stories hidden under the veneer of the popular conception of prostitution from “Pretty Woman” and “Secret Diary of a Call Girl.”

The film will be followed by a short discussion time.
