After his stunning book on jazz and theology, God’s Mind in that Music: Theological Explorations through the Music of John Coltrane, and following up on his recent book with Steve Bell, I Will Not Be Shaken: A Songwriter’s Journey through the Psalms, Jamie Howison has now turned his attention to the blues.

How do the blues help us sing the psalms and open us to truth? What can early blues artists like Robert Johnson (pictured above) teach us about God, lament, faith and truth that the mainline musical traditions of the West perhaps miss?
