Ecclesiastical documents are seldom exciting reading. However, Coming Home: Tackling the Housing Crisis Together is a notable exception. This report of “The Commission of the Archbishops of Canterbury and York on Housing, Church and Community” was released In February of this year, just as Empire Remixed and the Sorrento Centre were developing our Symposium on housing and homefulness.

Recognizing an immediate resonance between our work and the Commission, Michael Shapcott and Brian Walsh sat down for a chat with one of the architects of the report, Graham Tomlin, Bishop of Kensington.
In a wide ranging conversation, Bishop Tomlin talked about a theology of housing, principles of homemaking, and the role of church and government in housing. He shared some success stories, and even answered a question about eschatology. His answers were rich and winsome, and in the next two weeks we will be posting highlights from this conversation in seven instalments.
