Advent 2011 :: Day 22

22 12 2011

by Dion Oxford

Imagine a day when everyone was a part of a caring community of people who loved each other.

Consider a day when everyone shared their stuff; in fact, no one believed anything was ‘their stuff’ but that it belonged to the whole community.

Imagine a time when no one felt the need to abuse the people in their community by taking advantage of people’s kindness.

Imagine a time when everyone had someone to love and knew that someone loved them.

Just imagine!

Come Lord Jesus. Come quickly!

Advent 2011 :: Day 21

21 12 2011

by Dion Oxford

Imagine a day when everyone had meaningful work for meaningful pay.

Consider a time when people didn’t have to take a job that was degrading, humiliating and went against their own personal values just so they could pay the bills and feed their children.

Imagine a world where there was no such thing as a power hungry, greedy employer who didn’t care about anything but her/his profit margin.

Just imagine!

Come Lord Jesus. Come quickly!

Advent 2011 :: Day 20

20 12 2011

by Dion Oxford

Imagine a world where when someone asks “are you ready for Christmas?” it didn’t mean “have you braved the frantic masses of bargain hunters in malls so that you can buy all the useless presents for the people you care for so you can prove you love them?”

Imagine a day when getting ready for Christmas meant preparing our hearts, our homes, our families for the coming of the Saviour of the world.

Just imagine!

Come Lord Jesus. Come quickly!

Advent 2011 :: Day 19

19 12 2011

by Dion Oxford

Imagine a world where no one felt lonely.

Imagine a day when no one ever felt isolated, left out, misunderstood, abandoned or marginalized.

Consider a time when no one ever again found themselves feeling completely alone while in a crowd of people who were having seemingly stimulating conversations and joy filled laughter.

Imagine a world where no one ever felt so disconnected from everyone around them that they considered running away or even taking their own life.

Just imagine!

Come Lord Jesus. Come quickly!

Advent 2011 :: Day 18

18 12 2011

by Dion Oxford

Imagine a world without anyone who was depressed.

Imagine a time when no one was schizophrenic, bipolar, psychotic, or had a personality disorder.

Consider a day when people weren’t imprisoned because they did something outside of their control; a day when jails weren’t over populated with folks who were mentally ill because prison was society’s best response to this severe health issue.

Even better, imagine this wasn’t an issue to have to deal with because no one was mentally ill in the first place.

Just imagine!

Come Lord Jesus. Come quickly!

Advent 2011 :: Day 17

17 12 2011

by Dion Oxford

Imagine a day when everyone was treated as equal, no matter what.

Imagine a world where men and women had the same rights, no matter what part of the planet they were on.

Imagine a day when people with a different skin colour then the majority of people in a region weren’t referred to, and treated as, minorities.

Imagine a time when regardless of how much you paid in taxes, you were given the same respect by those in power.

Imagine a world where the rich and the poor understood each other and didn’t judge each other based on how much money they do or do not make.

Better yet, imagine there were no rich and poor but everyone had what they needed and were content with that.

Just imagine!

Come Lord Jesus. Come quickly!

Advent 2011 :: Day 16

16 12 2011

by Dion Oxford

Imagine a world without war; a world without two sides of an argument that leads to destruction and death.

Imagine there were no weapons, no bombs, no tanks.

Imagine a world where young people weren’t being recruited by countries all over the world and lured with the promise of a future but then are turned out to fight their political battles for them.

Imagine a day when we didn’t hear tallies of the number of people ‘killed in battle’ during different wars throughout the world.

Imagine a day when we studied war no more.

Just imagine!

Come Lord Jesus. Come quickly!

Advent 2011 :: Day 15

15 12 2011

by Dion Oxford

Imagine a world without young people from impoverished neighbourhoods being forced to choose either a gang and a gun or school and hopefully a job.

Imagine a time when there were no such thing as ghettos, gangs, guns, and drug dealing.

Consider a time when everyone had equal opportunity, no matter where you lived or what colour your skin was.

Imagine a day when ‘inner city school’ wasn’t a politically correct way to identify a school without all the resources it needed and was full of troubled and confused youth.

Just imagine!

Come Lord Jesus. Come quickly!!!

Advent 2011 :: Day 14

14 12 2011

by Dion Oxford

Imagine a day when everyone assumed that all kids were always safe.

Consider a day when we could comfortably send our kids to school on their own without worrying that something bad might happen to them.

Imagine a day when there was no such thing as ‘street youth’ who flee to the streets because they have decided that it is safer there than at home where the people they should be able to trust the most are betraying that trust.

Consider a day when we could assume that foster care was a safe alternative for at-risk youth. Even better, imagine a day when there was absolutely no need for foster care or children’s aid because all kids were getting everything they needed at home and there was no such thing as ‘at risk’ youth.

Consider a day when there was no need for youth detention centers or criminal codes for young people or courts specifically designed for minors.

Just imagine!

Come Lord Jesus. Come quickly!

Advent 2011 :: Day 13

13 12 2011

by Dion Oxford

Imagine a world where there were never any concerns about whether or not leaders of regions/countries/cities were honest.

Imagine a day without corrupt politicians.

Consider a day when thousands of citizens didn’t feel the need to hit the streets in places like Egypt, Russia, UK, and yes, Canada and the US to protest government not looking after everyone’s best interests.

Imagine a world where we automatically assumed that all leaders, preachers, teachers, cops, judges, social workers and lawyers were doing their jobs with 100% integrity.

Just imagine!

Come Lord Jesus. Come quickly!
